Solemnity of Christ the King

Soon the 112th Congress will be sworn in to conduct the peoples' business. Our citizens elected so many new members to both houses, because they are hungry for more ethical government and angry with a congress that could agree on little but its own pay raises.  The new congress will take up many issues left unresolved by the last congress, including:  unemployment, taxes, national spending, social security reform, immigration, modification and/or implementation of new healthcare laws, earmarks, and many more.
It sounds like the time for a dose of good old fashioned morality.  Nevertheless, we should expect atheist and secularist lobbies to continue their drumbeat for greater separation of church and state, by urging, not only lawmakers, but everyone to relegate time-tested religious values to the privacy of home or place of worship.  Remember that our freedoms are not based merely on social contracts.  The founding fathers held those truths to be self-evident because they were endowed by the Creator.  Without a Creator to grant them, no rights can be considered inalienable.
May Christ the King, always remind us of our responsibility, as good citizens, to communicate our values to our representatives.  And let us pray that Christ the King will begin his reign first in our hearts, then in our communities, and finally throughout the world.
