Music Ministry
“We are many parts, we are all one body, and the gifts we have we were given to share!” Everyone here at St. Hilary’s has gifts to share. Lectors, ushers, Eucharistic ministers, and musicians. If you sing or play an instrument, there is room for you to share your talent. Adults and children – please consider donating a little of your time to the music program of your parish.
Choir – A traditional adult choir that sings a variety of classical and contemporary works. The St. Hilary Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00PM and sings most often at the 10:00AM Mass on Sundays. All parishioners of high school age and up are welcome. The ability to read music is not required but you must be able to carry a tune.
Cantors – Our cantors lead us in song at Mass. A beautiful “solo” voice is not required but you must be a confident singer that enjoys being front of an assembly. The ability to read music is not required but is helpful. All parishioners of high school age and up are welcome. Cantors rehearse on an “as needed” basis. Cantoring is unique opportunity for singers to participate in an important ministry that can be tailored to suit your schedule.
Instrumentalists – If play an instrument, there’s a place for you. Woodwinds, brass, strings, and percussion all have a place in much of the music that is offered at Mass. You must be able to read and perform music of moderate difficulty. I can often arrange music specifically for your particular ability. Instrumentalists rehearse on an “as needed” basis. Young players are welcome as well as advanced students and adults.
Schola – The St. Hilary Schola is a vocal ensemble comprised mainly of students from our parish school. All parish children in grades 4 through 8, however, are welcome to join. The ability to read music is not required. The Schola rehearses on Wednesdays from 2:00PM until 2:45PM and sings at school Masses, select Sunday Masses, and parish concert events.
Handbell Choir – The St. Hilary Handbell Choir makes beautiful music with the parish’s spectacular set of bronze handbells. The Handbell Choir is comprised mainly of students from our parish school. All parish children in grades 5 through 8, however, are welcome to join. The ability to read music is required. The Handbell Choir rehearses on Thursdays from 3:15PM until 4:00PM and rings at school Masses, select Sunday Masses, and parish concert events.
