Wedding Music
St. Hilary Parish offers an individual planning session for your wedding liturgy. Director of Music, Carl Chadek, will help with selecting appropriate and beautiful music. Planning tips and other resources will be offered to make your wedding celebration a non-stressful, beautiful, and prayerful event.
Listed below are general outlines of the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage within a Mass and outside of Mass.

Wedding Mass Outline
Gathering Rites
Prelude - Music selections performed while your family and guests are arriving and being seated in church. Instrumental music, rather than vocal music, works best here because people will be talking, greeting friends, and renewing old aquaintances.
Processional - Music for the wedding party to enter the church. Instrumental music. The Procession may be one piece for the entire wedding party, including the bride; or two pieces with one for the wedding party and a separate piece for the bride.

First Reading - A reading from the Old Testament.
Responsorial Psalm - Musical setting of an appropriate psalm for cantor (vocalist) and congregation to sing.
Second Reading - A reading from the New Testament.
Gospel Acclamation - Musical setting of an appropriate alleluia or seasonal gospel acclamation for cantor and congregation to sing.

Blessing and Exchange of Rings
Unity Candle - An optional part of the wedding ceremony. A short instrumental selection is used here. In Filipino and Latino tradition, the Coins, Veil, and Cord happen here if these symbols are to be included.
Prayer of the Faithful - General intercessions.
Liturgy of the Eucharist
Presentation of the Gifts - As the gifts are offered for Mass a short instrumental selection is used.
Mass - Appropriate sung Mass parts are used during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The Lord's Prayer - Most often recited at weddings so that all can participate.
Nuptial Blessing
Sign of Peace - Most appropriately unaccompanied so that offering each other a sign of peace is the main focus.
Communion - An appropriate communion hymn for the congregation to sing.
Devotion - An optional part of the wedding ceremony. An instrumental or vocal selection may be used here as prayers are offered at the shrine to Mary. This devotion takes place after communion is completed.

Recessional - Instrumental music as the wedding party leaves the altar and processes down the aisle.
